Re: [FWDLK] Shaving Nosing Decking...

Huh?

there were no "rules" ,

IN THE '50's??? SHOOT, WE KIDS HAD ALL KINDS OF RULES. YOU GOT A GIRL PREGNANT, YOU EITHER DID THE "RIGHT THING" AND GOT MARRIED OR ARRANGED A COATHANGER ABORTION. KIDS WERE OVERTLY RESPECTFUL TO THEIR ELDERS. PEOPLE RESPECTED COPS. THE LIST GOES ON.

(and post-war elation had not occurred, since the Roaring-20's) ,

THE '50's HERALDED A GREAT GROWTH IN THE MIDDLE CLASS, A NEW PROSPERITY, RISE IN HOME BUYING, DEVELOPMENT OF THE "EISENHOWER" INTERSTATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM, TWO CAR FAMILIES, ET CETERA. THE AVERAGE INCOME IN THE LATE '50's WAS ABOUT $8,000 PER YEAR AND YOU COULD BUY A NICE CAR FOR UNDER $3,000, 1/3 OF A YEAR'S INCOME, AND A DECENT MODEST HOUSE FOR $15,000, LESS THAN TWO YEARS' INCOME.

except for a general civility & politeness-----hence, The popularity of > Lawrence Welk Show,

WHICH WAS A GENUINE CIVILITY AND A BASIC SENSE OF POLITENESS BECAUSE THAT WAS THE "RIGHT THING TO DO" AND THE WAY WE WERE RAISED.

but also of 'gang' "rumbles" (remember THAT
term???), and individual "knife" fights, as depicted in West Side Story.
Guns? You mean, like :"Zip-Guns"??

MAYBE IN THE MOVIES AND IN NEW YORK, BUT NOT SO MUCH IN THE GREAT PACIFIC NORTHWEST.

IT ISN'T JUST NOSTALGIC HYPE, IT REALLY WAS A GREAT TIME TO BE AN AMERICAN.
