Ed, what I have done (& have [real] pictures of), before instllaling clear plastic seat covers, is remove the seats, and then have a commercial "wet-process" carpet cleaner clean the fairly-fragile-by-design 57 upholstery, and then let the seats dry out thoroughly. I've actually, now, had two sets of clear plastic covers be installed, and the second set is now appearing a little stained/discolored, so, maybe in a year or two H. will be wearing his third plastic 'overcoat'. Underlying cloth/vinyl is perfect.
