Re: [FWDLK] Replacing glass

for what its worth: Safelite autoglass (I think its a national chain) recently replaced the windshild in my '66 Galaxie.  In fact, they even had the glass from PPG.  When I first contacted them, they were not sure if that year used a gasket, but even so were not concerned about doing the job either way, except they wanted me to leave the car with them at their shop instead of them doing it on site.  (the '66 does NOT have a gasket,  but is like a modern glue-in type, by the way).  So I think you just have to call and ask if they have someone who will do it.  the tech that did mine happens to own a '65 Falcon and is an old car enthusiast, so it worked out.

I approached the removal and reinstallation differently from many of your other responses.  For what it is worth, I assumed the original gasket was salvageable.  I had a pro remove the windshield.  I then cleaned, scraped and washed the old gasket carefully removing the sealer in the internal groves - this took several hours.  The same pro installed a new windshield with appropriate sealers.  The complete package looks great and does not leak.  Most close inspectors want to know where I bought the "new" gasket.

Hope this helps.
