...But, seriously, Forwardlookers, has anyone ever suffered any transmission failures, which might have been related to the quality of the trannie fluid installed in the unit? What about our foreign correspondents' experiences? What about newly-purchased "original" cars, with 'original' fluids, still in them? I've got a quickie true-fact: after my car's engine was overhauled (around 1990), the trans fluid was drained, in preparation for its being replaced. This event occurred when I still had the OEM air-cooled transmission. Unbeknownst to me, my shop OVERLOOKED replacing the transmission fluid, so, on my first test drive, I'm going up the highway grade, outside town, & I notice that I'm putting-down a white smoke-screen, behind the car! ; get back to town and install new Dexron, and the car never even 'stumbled'. This anecdote is true, but very similar to the 300C story, that appeared in Automobile Quarterly Vol 18, #4, which involved a car's losing its coolant @ 100-ish (top-end, for a 300) during an impromptu drag race, after an engine block freeze-plug bails-out. That car :"..soldiered on.." several miles, to a gas station, where its "cherry red" glowing engine block eventually cooled down, to where new freeze plug(s) could be installed. Subsequently? No ill effects. Our cars are TOUGH.
