Carl Kiekhaefer (owner of Mercury Outboard), ran a fleet of 1956 Dodge Coronet 2-door sedans equipped with the D500-1 engine. The D500-1 was the result of his work on his cars. Kiekhaefer believed dual carbs would be the way to go. So, Chrysler ordered 100 of his aluminum dual-cab intakes and in January, 1956 the D500-1 was announced. Twenty of those were shipped to Daytona in time for Speed Weeks. I don't have the August issue of CA, yet, but the Dodges he was running were built in Detroit and were the full-size 120" wheelbase model. If there are any shots of the rear quarters look closely at the taillights. Being a Coronet there should be two round lenses - one for tail-turn-stop and one for back-up. The Canadian/export Dodge and export DeSoto Diplomat used the Plymouth taillight with the large lens up the fin and a round back-up light at the base.
