I know what Rich is saying, as I have subscribed to a couple groups in
Digest mode for a couple days...until I realized that I really would prefer
to receive individual e-mails or nothing at all (if I can access the
messages some other way). It can be a BIG pain scrolling through messages,
looking for where the next message begins and the others end, especially if
there is not a table of contents with all the messages linked to their
position in the e-mail. This is what I hated the most...perhaps it was the
ONLY thing I hated about digest mode...but it's highly annoying. So, what's my point? I actually forgot what I meant to say, but basically, I think it's one of those evils that nobody will ever be able to agree upon. When receiving digest mode, there's little or no need for the other messages to remain attached, as they're likely all in one message, but for those not on digest mode (which is likely the majority of the subscribers), it is often helpful to have the original message attached. I've always been in the habit of at least trimming down messages so there aren't four or five replies attached, but I still like having the actual message being replied to available to read. I doubt everyone will completely stop attaching the original message, but perhaps the attached message can be trimmed down to just the most recent post or two. ----- Original Message ----- From: "John McCann" <jmccann@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <L-FORWARDLOOK@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, March 10, 2006 1:56 PM Subject: Re: [FWDLK] L-FORWARDLOOK Digest I agree, I can't make sense out of just a reply without at least the message it was a reply to. The previous messages leading up to the reply might not be relevant and can be deleted without losing the flow of the thread. ************************************************************* To unsubscribe or set your subscription options, please go to http://lists.psu.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=l-forwardlook&A=1
