I think Barrett-Jackson is about the only place in the world where you can
do a frame-off restoration of a car and not only recoup your money but make a
few bucks. Jay Leno says that he's the president of the "More money than
brains" club, but I'm willing to bet a couple of the runners up are at B-J this
week. I think B-J is definitely more about "show what you got" rather than
a place to pick up a good deal, and it serves its purpose well.

I'm just in awe, or more of a stupor, that [a]
people will spend so much money for cars as they are at B-J and [b] that so
many people seem to have so much money to spend.
Remember, some of the most opulent and
expensive cars were sold during the "Great Depression" when a lot of people
didn't have a dime...
I think the thing to remember is that almost all of those
people buying the cars a B-J are doing so because they think they
can recover the cost...It is an investment with a little blue sky. The
depression era purchases were only to satisfy their position in life...the
cars depreciated rather rapidly often selling for fractions of their original
cost in only a few years. I'll bet if you asked most of the buyers
today when they first became interested in MoPar muscle it was only in
the last few years. Those of us who have lived with them for a
lifetime have a totally different perspective. If we don't have what we
want now , then we will wait and catch them on the rebound.
