Subject: RE: [FWDLK] Oops It is a 1955 Dodge The Parisienne eventually became a rebadged Chevvy, but in the late 50's and 60's it was actually the full-sized, top of the line Pontiac. A lesser model was named the Laurentian. I recall that these cars had Chevvy underpinnings, which meant they lacked the "wide track" stance of the U.S. models. This was easy to spot from either the front or rear, since the bodies looked too wide for their wheel stance. I went to college in Florida, where a lot of Canadians sought a reprieve from winter, so we used to see lots of these Canadian Pontiacs, plus Plodges, Meteors and Monarchs. The cars would have minor detail changes (the split grille used to turn the '68 Malibu into a Beaumont looks like a custom add-on out of a JC Whitney catalog) from the Chevrolet version. They revived the Tempest name later on a Canada-only rebadged Corsica, and the Parisienne ended up imported to the US when they foolishly did away with the full size Bonneville in 1982 (moving the name to a smaller platform). Even the Pontiacs made prior to the mid-60's used a Chevrolet underframe and drivetrain, and there were a few Canada-only styles as a result of the crossbreeding. It's just like some of the goofy Dodges that were bascially Plymouths with a Dodge nose, or outright rebadged Plymouths - they played these games to beat some of Canada's import laws and regulations. Anyway, I gave the man $6999. He wanted $9000. Got to tell the wife now. Ouch. I just sold a 64 Malibu with a big block 450 HP motor and am using that money to better act my 58 year old age. Hooking up that Malibu was sure fun though. It had a stall 3000 converter. It is the one time in recent memory where all the boys (adults) piled in while visiting for Dad to take 'em for a ride. The extra weight in the back made it hook up really good. They were all smiles even the grandkid. I also just sold a 1929 Chevy AC (1/2 ton) truck to a fellow in Canada. Chevy cars and trucks are really popular in Canada. They built Malibus up there but called them Arcadia. I appreciate all the feedback so far from the listers and hopefully when it cools down, we can have a "list fest" where we get together with our cars somewhere. The Mercedes site I have been on for 6 years does that. Even though I know longer have MBs, I stay subscribed and post here and there because it is like family and I have traveled to Atlanta with the wife to attend gatherings.
