Bryan, The horn relay schematic is shown in your 58 DeSoto shop manual on page 33 of the Specifications Section. There are 4 terminals: B: violet wire to starter relay. G: black/wht stripe wire to horn button. H: dark green/wht stripe wire to horns. IGN: uncoded (possibly dark blue) wire connects mid span to the dark blue wire between IGN terminal of ignition switch and the ballast resistor. This may be your dangling dark blue wire. When the ignition is "on" and the horn button pressed, current flows in the IGN terminal, through the relay coil, to ground at the button. This energizes the coil, closes the relay contacts, and flows current in the B terminal and out the H terminal to the horns. I have no idea of the function of the "gang of wires with a thin red, yellow, green and blue wire attached to the ignition terminal", since these are not on the schematic at the horn relay. Some previous owner may have modified or repaired the wiring. I would recommend testing the dangling dark blue wire to see if it becomes hot at any of the ignition switch positions. Looking at the horn relay on my 58 DeSoto Fireflight (V-8 361) I have three wires attached - a purple wire attached to the batt terminal; a green wire to the horn terminal; a gang wire with a thin red, yellow, green and blue wire attached to the ignition terminal, and a black ground. Here's my question: Next to the relay there is a also a dark blue wire dangling in the air looking for a home. It is taped to the same bunch of wires that the others are bound in, and its proximity to the relay makes it look like it was once attached. I know it's tough to speculate about it sight unseen, but does this ring anyone's bell???? My wiring diagram doesn't even show the relay. ************************************************************* To unsubscribe or set your subscription options, please go to http://lists.psu.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=l-forwardlook&A=1
