Wow; I never considered why 59+ Dodges didn't have exhaust deflectors, (besides their vulnerability to driveway pads and exhaust corrosion!) because they really WORK in keeping the rear of the cars clean! They act as a sacrificial-element, like a sort of 'fusible link', because they are so (relatively) easy to replace, & CHEAP (NOS cost : $3.57, in 1957-dollars; like about $20bux, now) , back-then! Do 59 Dodges (still) have the mounting-holes, for the exhaust deflectors, on them, as they share the same bumpers (essentially) as the 57-58'ers? Tail pipes 'should' point downward, and beyound the reach of the bumper. If you smell fumes, you may have a void, or 2, in the trunk area.
