Don't know about other states, but Wisconsin DMV doesn't ask what model car is. The model of car is not listed on title. They only want - VIN # - Year, Make, Type of vehicle (car,truck,van,etc.), and we can use the mail to apply for plates so the DMV never sees car. Of course there could be some exceptions to that but I haven't run into any yet. The VIN # would tell correct model and year and that might be important to your insurance company.
