Hi All - It took about six hours, but the engine and tranny are now back in my 58 Plymouth for the first time in about six years. Yay ! The only real problem we encountered was mounting the engine/torque converter/spacer to the tranny and bell housing. The darn thing just wouldn't mate with the engine, stopping with about a 1" gap between the spacer and the bell housing. What finally solved the problem was using large screw drivers in the bolt holes to line everything up. The the two came together without too much trouble. Lowering the engine/tranny combination into the engine bay was relatively easy. One thing that helped was using an 'engine leveler' bar to lean the engine forward or back. I also disconnected the center link from the steering column to give me some additional clearance. It also helped that the front clip is off the car, allowing me access to the motor mounts.
