Them brake springs are TOUGH. My car's brake springs were 'rusty', but
they cleaned up very nicely, when subjected to a 'bench' wire-wheeling.

If you can 'find' a set of "matching" brake drums
with "springs", I'd have no reservations in advising you to clean and
install them ( the springs) onto your 'good' brake drums!!
