[FWDLK] Wheel Color

Hello List,

I think this was covered a while back but I need a refresher course.  If I recall correctly Chrysler painted all of the wheels in the '55-'59 model years in two shades of gray.  The outer rim was a sort of dove gray and the inner rim was more of a slate gray.  My Dad had a '59 DeSoto Firesweep and that is what I remember.

This past weekend I found the original spare to my '56 Plymouth inside a continental tire assembly that was in the trunk when I bought the car.  The wheel rim has a badly cracked and weathered wide whitewall tire mounted on it.   However the paint looks to be a single shade of light gray - with a fair touch of surface rust.  Were the slate colored inner rims a feature that showed up only after '56?  When I paint it I want it to be correct.  Any insights will be appreciated.

On a slightly different note a couple of weeks ago I spotted a '56 business coupe for sale on a lot east of Xenia, OH.  Had the usual rust but looked original and the interior wasn't torn up.  Light green with a white top and powerflight transmission.  Would need some sheet metal work and re-chroming to be nice.  Not a super desirable car, but a rare one.  If anyone is interested I'll go back and get more info.

Regards,
