"Correctness" in parts-applications harkens back to Chrysler's "middle-name": Never-say- Never!! The assmbly line would install whatever was handy--stories abound about mis-placed/mis-matched trim pieces. In VERY-late 57 M.Y., around mid August, Dodge apparently ran-out of their 1957 dashes, & so began installing 1958 dashes (with the forward-mounted rear-view mirror location) on their 1957 cars.--There is also the myth that some early 1958 Dodges may have had "left-over" Hemi engines in them, but no legit car has ever been found.
