I'm planning to swap in a later model rear for my '60 Saratoga, I have a choice of different ones from some vehicles, mostly pickup trucks and one Challenger (E bodies have a very wide rear end) I've recently parted out so not sure yet which will fit the best, but then I hope to figure out correct cables from the original firewall mechanism back to the rear end to operate them. If this fails, a Lokar custom lever and cable setup might work out. I'll also have the park position in the later trans to help out, of course. I would say you could swap to disc brakes, the roadgoing versions from Wilwood and others have built in small drum brake setups for parking/emergency brake service, but I don't think these are offered for original tapered axles and ends.
