"Sold sales bank" is a contradiction in terms. The sales bank was a collection of cars that Chrysler stored up for quick shipping to dealers in need of cars. They were not built to any dealer or fleet order and had a sales code for "Sales Bank". They were also a way to keep the assembly plant running when orders from dealers were slack. The "Sold Car" classification was used for cars built to an order from a dealer, while "Fleet Sales" was used for cars built for a fleet order. There were also special codes for repeat fleet customers, such as Chrysler Leasing, Ontario Provincial Police, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Department of National Defence, Avis, Hertz, Gelco, or for special situations such as Chrysler company car or customer drive-away. Interiors included rubber mats (not carpets), plain vinyl seat upholstery, and zippered headlinig (to access the roof wiring). Both had the base level seats, and spartan interior. I have seen several late 60's early 70's police cars at the car shows in the last few years. They ALL had the cerified speedo, and yes, it says it on the face of the speedo. This is the most obvious dead give away. If it is missing the instrument cluster, first, look at the K-frame. The slant 6 uses a rather bizarre 'L' shaped mounting system (imagine an 'l' when you look at the frame and the mounts will line up.) The 8 cyl cars used mounts that directly oppose one another. Another clue would be the data tag. If you decode it, it should have state the car to be a 'sold sales bank' car. All fleet purchases were of this designation. Finally, if you are missing all of the above, look at the suspension. Should have 11" drums front and rear or a disc drum set-up. Should also possess at least a front sway bar. Most taxi's that i have seen in bone yards do not ha! > ve the sway bars. Also, the police cars I have seen have always had the rubber mat interior, as opposed to carpet. > And that is all I know about police cars.
