In 1957 there were no factory seals on the torsion bars and that is why you won't find them in the '57 literature. The seals were introduced in '58 after reports came back from the dealerships for the need for something like this to try to stop rusting in the bar mounts as well as associated undesirable sounds. 1613 388 is the part number of the seals. Chrysler calls them "Seal, bar or spring rear end anchor". A search on www.partsvoice.com reveals that three dealers have them. I'm thinking Gary Goers offers them but if not, they are not uncommon Wayne ----- Original Message ----- From: "Reggie Knowlton" <Reggie_Knowlton@xxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, December 11, 2003 10:13 AM Subject: Torsion bar seals I have been trying to find the part number for the torsion bar seals for the 1957 DeSoto. ( They go on the trailing end to keep water and dirt out of the adjuster ) Do you know what they are? My parts sheet doesn't show them but the service manual ( Motors ) references them in the portion on torsion bar removal and installation. Reginald C. Knowlton Dominion Resources Services, Inc.
