Clay (may I call you "Red"-?) I fear that 'some' slight moisture/humidity may have entered the sarcaphgus, but NOT much clay/soil, for the simple reason that there is no evidense of topsoil subsidence , over the 'pit' ! Also, Rust never sleeps, but it DOES need oxygen, by definition--oxidation--to occur, and there should NOT be any continuing- source of O2 inside the sarcaphagus, and isn't surface-rust sort-of "self-sealing". Again, I see no sort of 'catalyst' , like salt-environment, which would propagate corrosion--although direct water-leakage/drippage onto the sheetmetal, over 50 years, wouldn't do the car, any 'good' --THAT's my guess--localized minor/moderate deterioration, with minor surface corrosion to exposed 'bare' metal.
