There's a Chrysler film from 1934 extolling the virtues of safety glass all around. They put a babe in a Chrysler Airflow and had a pitcher huff a baseball at the side window. It cracked but didn't break. They also did the same with another brand, looks like a Ch--y, and the ball went thru one side window and then out the other side window. IIRC solid tempered glass was first installed on the side and maybe rear windows about 1960 or maybe 1962. The windshields were still laminated. --Roger van Hoy, '55 DeSoto, '58 DeSoto, '42 DeSoto, '41 Dodge, '66 Plymouth, '81 Imperial, Washougal, WA ----- Original Message ----- From: "eastern sierra Adj Services" <esierraadj@xxxxxxxxx> To: <L-FORWARDLOOK@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, November 09, 2003 10:26 AM Subject: [FWDLK] Glass Houses | Thanx, Bob, I do seem to recall "Safety Glass" | being mentioned, in-passing, in the late 50's. | Funny thing, tho, does anyone recall seeing any particular advertising, | extoling the merits of the laminated window glass??-as in | photos/demonstrations of what/how the Safety glass is/works? | | I may be wrong (again) , but I believe that only the windshields had the | Safety Glass--if so, when was laminated glass installed in most/all | of a car? | | Neil | | -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- | Over 25,000 pages of archived Forward Look information can be easily searched at | http://www.forwardlook.net/search.htm Powered by Google! -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Over 25,000 pages of archived Forward Look information can be easily searched at http://www.forwardlook.net/search.htm Powered by Google!
