I'll give my answer, when I moved to an area that had more hills that my previous home. And one hill in particlaur that I go down quite often, the car just plain would not stop at the bottom. I can't tell you how many hours I and other people put into the front drum brakes on my car trying to get them to stop better. I adjusted them until the cows came home, I bet I had the drums off the car a dozen times checking everything. I don't have access to a brake shoe grinder to arc the shoes correctly like they did in the era. I belive that was my whole problem, I could never get full contact of the shoe to the drum. Finally I gave up, installed the disc brake kit 3 years ago and haven't touched the front wheels since. And it sure stops sweet now.
