Hello all,
while we are on the subject of scams ,I want to
tell you my experience ....
A few months ago I bought a car trough
Ebay,in the Newark area, paid 2000 US dollars deposit by bank
transaction.
Went to see the car 2 months later in
Newark, thought it was a different car then the one I bought, checked the Vin
,that was the same as mentioned in the add.Explaned the seller that its not the
car as when looking at the pictures,it looked really bad.I didnt want to close
the deal ,said to the seller I would like to get my deposit back ,although I
bought it ,told him he could keep 500 US Dollars for his trouble.(holding the
car for 2 months, making phonecalls ,trying to get a tag and others)
The seller wrote me a check with the amount of 1500
US and when he gave me the check I was releaved.
But I wasnt fealing very comfortable until the
amount was on my account. The not trusting fealing was mostly made by the type of
check that was used.
The paper check that are used in the USA look
fake, although they are not, then there is the problem of so many different
smaller banking companies all over the country.
I mistrusted the seller upfront when he was writing
out the check, but I had no other choice,I didnt want to buy the car !! and was
happy to get some of my money back.
I am very sorry about mistrusting the
seller, but these days you can't be careful enough.
Regarding to Ron's words "If it smells bad, it probably is" I should have
known that the seller was OK.
Remarks:
I am sure over
here in Europe simular scams are going on,
about the USA checks is not one to insult anybody,
Several of you adviced me before buying this
car:
about getting a temporary tag for the
car
about buying a car from a picture
I want to thank them for there input and
advice, make sure I have learned from it.
,kind regards to
all, Dirk Brandwijk,1955 Belvedere,Netherlands.
