Re: [FWDLK] Air Cleaner Conversion

If you don't want to modify your original oil bath air cleaner like Dave Homstad suggested, any pre-68 Mopar 4 bbl air cleaner should work.  Going by memory here, but I believe that all Mopar 4 bbl's through 67 had something like a 4 7/32" opening while 68-up were 5 1/8.  Aftermarket air cleaners (i.e., chrome) used to include an adaptor for the smaller neck carb, but it's been a while since I bought one, and they may not any more.

Anyway, I've got a 65 Commando 273 chrome air cleaner assembly on my 56 Plymouth with 277 power pack, and all I had to do was put in a shorter (?) stud.  Still have the original, unmodified assembly on a shelf and can go back to the stock setup in a couple of minutes (well, stock except for the Mallory ignition, A/C and later radiator).

Has anyone tried to put a newer paper air filter on an older oil bath 4-barrel carb. There has got to be an adapter somewhere that will enable this.
