Hello Joseph, You could put the 727 into your poly 277 if you change the crankshaft to a '62 and up small block crank. The '55-'61 small blocks have an eight bolt crank while the '62 and up small blocks have a six bolt crank (for the A-727). You will also need the later starter motor and the bell housing for a small block car (should you use a transmission out of a big block car). If it were me, with your plans, I would try to find a good used powerflite to hold me over if you're going to go with the Hemi. Another thing you might want to consider is finding a '62 and up poly 318 bolted to a 727 already. I've found running examples around here in MD for around $500. Then you could just bolt that in for awhile, you'd have a 727 ready to be rebuilt later for your Hemi, and you'd have just a little bit more power. It all boils down to if it's worth it for you or not. If you have any other questions, let me know. Talk with you later.
