Are you sure it's not the neutral safety switch? Sounds like the exact problem I had. When the engine is hot and doesn't start, ground the wire from the neutral safety switch. BE SURE CAR IS IN NEUTRAL, and see if it will start. If it does, replace the neutral safety switch or wire in some kind of momentary contact button to ground the wire when this situation happens. I remove the end plate, look at the brushes (good), clean the collector and try again: starter works so i put another solenoid which is good. I install the starter, starts the car 2 or 3 times, make a small trip and park the car.
