Re: [FWDLK] Oil Filter Interchange?

On Fram quality - Matt Joseph, an automotive writer (Skinned Knuckles
magazine) had a call in Q&A radio program on Saturday mornings here in Wis
on Public Radio. This was a few years back (maybe 5 to 7) but I remember
him making the comment that during the mfging process of Fram filters,
'string' would be used for part of the process and the 'string' was left
inside the filters. I think he said he discoverd it when cutting a filter
in half. I just changed oil & filter on my 59 Plymouth Saturday and am
going to cut the Fram filter in half. I'll let list know what I find.
Matt Joseph also would comment on Pennzoil and Quaker State oil, saying
that they were processed using a 'wax base' therefore would gum up your
engine over time. I have a friend who has been using Pennzoil for many
years in his 72 Olds. With over 220,000 miles, the 455 engine runs like a
top. Another friend of mine has used Quaker State for years and swears by
it. I use Valvoline (just to be different - have to be - these two friends
collect Chevys and T-Birds. John Z
