Re: [FWDLK] FLook AM to AM/FM radio conversion. Who's done it?

I remember looking for an FM converter for my Impala, but couldn't find one anywhere.  SO, if anyone knows of a place, please let me know.
Thanks,

James - I don't think there is a an actual switch on our radios to convert to FM.  You might be thinking of a FM converter.  I recently installed one on my car.  Its a small box - 4" x 5" x 2" thick.  I mounted it under dash just to right of steering column.  It conects to your AM radio.  This box is what has the AM/FM switch.  Your AM radio has to be set on a certain frequency in order for the FM converter to work.  A friend of mine had 2 of these stored in his garage and gave me one so I don't know if they are still available on the market.
I personally don't like anything attached to the bottom of my dash but the alternative is to take out the AM radio and send it to a company (don't remember name offhand) and have them convert original radio to AM/FM still retaining your original radio.  Costs about $300 I think.  Lets see now, $300 for radio conversion, $568 for 4 new tires, $300 for a few patch panels, $$$$$? new paint, hey, but its worth it.    John Z in Mosinee, WI

I understand that our original AM radios can be converted to receive AM and FM. Has anyone done this? Does it work well? Where is the switch located that switches one to the other?

Also, does anyone understand the relationship between the ohms rating of the speaker and the radio?? I know that any general speaker will work, but I thought I read somewhere that there is a relationship between the two and to keep that in mind when doing anything with a speaker. I am debating between having the original speaker redone or just going out a getting a new 5X7 speaker.

Thoughts?
