According to the Hemi engine ID page at www.powerplayhemi.com
<http://www.powerplayhemi.com/> , a Chrysler Marine engine would typically
have a serial number beginning M45S. I would guess that the M stands for
Marine. A 354 with 2x4 carbs would be M45SP-3, 275 hp at 4400 rpm. For twin
engine boat applications, engines were available in normal and reverse
rotation pairs.
There are some difficulties converting a Marine or Industrial engine to
street use.

Hello everybody
greetings from Italy.
Recently I picked up a 354 hemi marine engine, guess about 56, with dual
four carbs. The engine is in very good condition, with only minimal rust in
the cylinder bores. I would like to have some more informations on this
engine, like compression ratio and horsepower. The dataplate on the engine
reads 45L different from any other Hemi marine engine, while the head
casting numbers are 1733463, and this makes for a industrial engine.
Can somebody help me? I would like to rebuild the engine for installation on
a street rod I am building, so would like to know if it's worthwhile, given
the high prices for hemi engine parts.
