Could "45L" possibly mean "4.5 litre"? I know you said
it's a 354, but that metric size would pretty well
describe a DeSoto 276, or perhaps a Dodge 270.

Makes sense to me that if the engine went to Europe
originally they might've used metric displacement to
describe it.
