Well, I don't know about the REAL old systems but I can tell you about my 92 ranger. I used the inexpensive conversion that only replaces the oil, refrigerant and the fittings ($30). I had a gas station evacuate the system for me then replaced the fittings, added the new oil and charged it. It's been 4 years with no problems so far. Only thing I noticed was that it's not quite as cold as before. Before if I left it set past 75% I would freeze in no time. Now I pretty much run it close to max all the time, but it's plenty cool for even the hottest days. I also noticed that on hot days it takes a little longer to get cool. But it eventually gets cool no matter how hot out it is. Yeah it worked better with r12 but when it costs >$100 just for a recharge versus $3 to do it myself with r134a. You do the math. I don't know how older systems will respond to the oil differences though. Scott H <kneedrager@HOTMAIL To: L-FORWARDLOOK@xxxxxxxxxxxxx .COM> cc: Sent by: Forward Subject: [FWDLK] Any AC experts? I have heard mixed things about efficiency and would like to hear from an impartial party that know the facts.
