Looks like the several posts on this question answered it pretty good. Frankly I would replace the single wcfb on my 56 with a new 4 barrel except there are no aftermarket units that are that small. Course the engine IS a 277 not a 383 or somesuch. For further debate, note how fast the HP rose over a few years- my 'hot' 56 powerpac engine was, I think, rated at 200 hp, the non pp engine was like 187? Well by I think 59 or 60 the same engine in 318 form with 2 barrel carb was rated at 230 hp? Thats 2 barrel.... And as a FYI my 62 stick 2 dr post Savoy with 230 hp 318 and 2 barrel carb, 3 speed converted to hurst floor shift, self installed duals with open pipes, gave me a best time of 15.8 et and 85 in the 1/4. Thats with stock rear axle and bias ply tires and lots of smoke on takeoff. Which equated to 0-60 in about 7.7 seconds. Usually I would go thru the traps winding out in 2nd. I still have the timing slips for it (yep, 35 yrs ago....) so remember, SAVE EVERYTHING! :o/> IMHO a good aftermarket 4 barrel would be the answer for those not needing to keep things stock- Just musing- Lars in beautiful West Michigan, USA |
