I noted a couple of posts to the list about different sending units for the 58 and 59 cars due to the introduction of the voltage regulator. While the cars may indeed use different sending units, the sending unit provides the ground, not the power for the fuel gauge. The gauge should be the part calibrated to the power transformer, so the sending unit should work fine for either year. Mopar sending units have a sliding contact point rheostat that vary resistance like the panel light switch. The more resistance, the weaker the ground, and the lower the fuel gauge reads. When the tank is full, you have direct contact and the fuel gauge needle gets full power to swing to Full. Bob Stein 59 Dodge Coronet (with a dead sending unit) |
