you will need a ball-joint separator, or whats also known as a pickle fork. the joints have a tapered shaft that goes through the control arms with the castle nut on the threaded end. one way to make this easier: before is to remove cotter pins from nuts, loosen the nuts a couple turns, and them get in their with the fork and use the tension from the torsion bars to help pop loose the joints and then unload the remaining tension from the bars. S.LOUTHAN 61' NEWPORT ---------- From: David Charles Gedraitis <dcg@WPI.EDU> To: L-FORWARDLOOK@LISTS.PSU.EDU Subject: [FWDLK] Spindles Date: Sunday, April 09, 2000 9:47 AM I seem to be having some trouble removing the front spindles from my '61 Newport (I'm trying to find spindles from a disc brake car to put on it, as well as the disc brakes). Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get them off? They seem to be attached at the ball joints but I can't see how. ~Dave |
