Hedging his bets with a statement "Of course you know we can't divulge any future plans"...John Herlitz, Exec VP Design of the Chrysler group at D/M told his questioners referring to a production date for the new rear drive Chrysler 300 hemi. John accepted the award presented to Chrysler last evening to rounds of loud applause at the annual AutoWeek Design Forum awards presentation held at Cobo Hall in conjunction with the 2000 North American International Automobile Show in Detroit. The new hemi 300 convertible was stunning in a metallic graige color (I'm borrowing the name "graige" from Raymond Loewy's description of a warm neutral silver gray) on an angled rotating turntable. Many design cues remain on the car from the current 300s, but other than the hemi there isn't much from the 57 300C. No fins, but the smooth surface development from the low front end of the body terminating in its high tail gives the car a strong wedge silhouette. The shorter overall length also places it in sports car territory which compares well against the new Jaguar XK8 and others in this market. Brian 57 Dodge D500s |
