Running out of gas stories brought back a few
old memories. Back in '62 when I was stationed in Maine I was driving back
home to Wisconsin for Christmas holidays in my l959 Plymouth Sport Fury. I
chose to drive through Canada and down through upper Michigan. While in
the UP the Plymouth quit on me and I was towed in to a service station. My
gas guage indicated I had gas so the guy checked out the usual things and it
still wouldn't start. Eventually he stuck a hose down the filler pipe and
we discovered the tank was empty. So I filled the tank and the kind fellow
charged me for the gas only - the towing and other work he said was on him - it
was Christmas. One other time I ran out of gas with the Plymouth on the way home
from Maine. I was in the Milwaukee area and a State Trooper stopped.
He had a hose hooked to his fuel pump and gave me a couple of gallons from his
car. Those were the days. I regretfully traded the Sport Fury for a
66 Mustang. But I made up for that mistake. Within the last year I
have purchased another 59 Sport Fury and a 59 Fury. By the way I am a new
member to the list and sure enjoy the info. John
