That simple reverse light switch can cause many woes! On my 58 Belvedere, someone added a bumper with the reverse light. The harness was there, but no switch. Also missing was the little "lever" on the reverse pushbutton rod which flicked the switch arm back and forth. I made one and secured it with JB Weld. You have to be fairly precise, or the lamp may not shut off (or on). I lucked out and mine worked the first time out. Better yet, find a pushbutton unit from a car that came from the factory with reverse lamps.
