John,

My personal opinion is that it would look cool.  I seriously considered a
similar move for my '61 Plymouth wagon but decided to not do anything
non-reversible as it seems to be more rare than I initially thought.
I know all the arguments for stock vs custom and I've been in both camps.  The
most important thing to remember is that it's your car.
