My 38 Pickup had the modern U joints and new driveshaft on when I bought it- but I think he had a V8 in it once. I had a local truck shop (alignment and brakes) make a driveshaft for my 56 wagon, complete shaft, modern sealed joints each end, and balancing was about $230 that was maybe 5 yrs ago. Most guys around here go to the truck shops- they know what they are doing. U can simply bring in your old shaft and u joints along with the dimension fron face of rear end mounting flange to the flange on transmission. They do the rest, and let em know U have a V8 not a 6! but I never had a driveshaft/U joint problem in any of my mopars prior. When I finally pulled the engine/trans on my 56 wagon I discovered---- WOW---- the long flat transmission mount/insulator was not bolted in place!!!!! The car had been running for who knows how long with the engine/trans cattywampus to the centerline of the car! Even with this setup vibration was 'moderate'. i.e. I had driven car at 60+ for several hundred miles. Guess its either high $ rebuild of the old ball and cross or pay it for a new setup. Lars |
