I did this on my 54 NewYorker. I just cut the oil bath part out of the lid, and replaced it with a filter from a suzuki samauri (I think, maybe it was a Geo). Anyway, it was the right height, and had a rubber seal on both ends. It looks great (completely stock) and is a lot less messy too. Cheers.
