A sedan's doors have frames around the windows that remain up when the windows are rolled down. A hardtop has no frames. Hardtops were supposed to be like convertibles only with non-removeable steel tops instead of fabric. I have a 1956 Plym Savoy 2 door hardtop (is the definition of "hardtop" a question as well? It has 2 doors and is not a convertible) I inherited this from a great aunt who purchased it brand new in 1956. This is without question an original owner car with no modifications. I hope this helps.
