Well, with junk cars fetching about 35 bucks for scrap value, no one is making any money. Shintzer Steel in Oakland Ca. is this regions largest metal recycler, and the yard used to have HUGE piles of scrap iron from crushed cars and industry scrap. The Yard has about 3 piles now, not much bigger than a house. The Asian economy has dried up demand for iron. Good cast iron is going for 22 bucks a ton here in Sacramento. And about that Junkyard rumor, it's B.S.! hatred directed toward a group that is still perceived as the enemy. WW2 was over fifty years ago! The Japanese are not looking to buy up yards of old classic cars, how absurd! they buy scrap iron by the ship load just like any industry would. Why bother with land leasing or environmental issues, buy it already processed. Someone's old clapped out, rusted out old Mopar (More Old Plastic And Rust) crushed last year is probably part of that computer case that your monitor is resting on! - my conservative 2 cents- / Josh / '59 Dodge, '96 Sebring 'vert, '68 ghost Charger (gone but not forgotten) |
