Re: [FWDLK] cragar ss

Absolutely right....  Can't we all stick to cars.... Without all the innuendo and agitato?

Opinions were asked for, and I gave mine.

Don’t tell people to shut the $#@ up when opinions were specifically asked for.

If the OP asked for only happy and approving opinions, then your argument
would apply.  But as it was couched, ALL opinions were solicited.

———————————————————

As to your specifics, OK, I’ll bite.  If you lived through the period, Cragars

a.  were a 1970’s phenomenon, not a 60’s thing.

b.  they were typically applied to stupidly jacked up Novas and Chevelles and
other favorites of the trailer park crowd, trying to make their beater street
machines look more like drag racing funny cars.

When you saw a finned car dialed up this way, it was a sure sign it was the end
for that poor car.  It was no longer seen as a stately icon to a more glamorous age.
Rather, it was something to be trashed and abused and junked when it gave out.

One needs to ask the question …  “Why an old car ?” when they make the commitment
to preserving and restoring an oldie.  For some of us, it is just that, to preserve a time
capsule, something representative of another time.  For others (apparently) flamed
paint jobs, louvres, and Cragars are their interpretation of what is “right” to do with a
car like ours.  Having lived through the decline of fins and the LONG stretch where
they were seen (and treated) as nothing but beaters (the Cragar period), I have a
pretty strong opinion of trying to put a positive spin on a pretty grim scene.

If that isn’t enough, I will revisit the men-in-the-company-of-other-men comment …
The weekend we are enjoying the annual visit of the Good Guys car show/event.
Gonna be all sorts of Cragar-equipped cars, flames, and louvres going on there !
And you know what ?  It is gonna be 99% visited by fat old pasty white dudes with
stupid car-themed T-shirts showing off and looking at each others’ man magnets.
That is just a fact.  Now, if that is a guy’s idea of how to enjoy their old car scene,
by golly, who is anyone to stop him ?  But that ain’t MY car scene, and when someone
asks me for an opinion, I’m not the kind of mealy-mouth worm to lie to the guy or give
him some suck up answer that won’t hurt the tender one’s feelings.

Maybe some people like that mealy-mouth stuff ?  I don’t like being shined on or
lied to.  When I ask for an opinion, I expect an honest answer.  When I am asked
for an opinion, out of the same respect, I will give the same, also expecting that the
person asking IS asking for honest opinions, whatever those might look like.

While Forward Lookcars are of the last century, this thread is now.
Get your head up to date Brent.
Have a real aesthetic criticism or stfu
Saying that Cragars are too shiny, angular or from the 60s and thus period incorrect would be appreciated.
Otherwise, look in the mirror and contemplate how time has passed you by.

  Since you asked, ….

To me, Cragars are for hillbillies and men who prefer the company of other men.
They are the antithesis of cool, and certainly degrading to any Forward Look car.
