I took a likin’ to the 4 door sedans when stripped of all the trim. They take cute-but-frumpy to the highest level. Before I took to Mopar, I had thing for 59-60 Buicks, and found a flawless turquoise interior in an Invicta at the bottom of a stack of cars at Ray’s Auto Wrecking. To remove said interior, was like mining furniture-size objects from a deep pit. Getting the parts free of the car was easy. Getting them out of the 5-deep, side-by-side stacks was a real job ! Returning to “the pit” after taking some bits up to the surface and out to the truck, I took a moment to have a sip off my drink. Leaning up against the Buick, I happened to notice a nearby car that piqued my interest … a very nice, monotone Mist Green Plaza 4 door sedan with dog dish hubcaps and body-colored wheels. It was so cute. Little stubby finmobile that just screamed “Grandma Pittipoo”, lace gloves, hat, and only driven to the grocery store and church on Sundays. Ray would not sell anything but parts out of the yard, and years under the pile had taken it’s toll on this example. I spent the next 30 years trying to find another like it. What I found was a really strange build. Since the requirements for purchase prioritized like this:
1. Plaza, 4 door, Mist Green Monotone, ….. all other things second, …. it took a long time to find the basic starting point. What I found was a Plaza 4 door sedan in monotone Mist Green. A nice, low miles desert car, that had been abandoned in 1963 behind a furniture store in Arizona after the windshield was smashed out of it. Almost a dead match visually for the car in the wrecking yard years before, this car was a departure for equipment, The wrecking yard car was a sixer with a 3-onda-tree, manual everything, no radio, etc. This low-bux model got out- fitted with 318, Torqueflite, power steering and brakes, deluxe steering wheel, and AC ! So, I got all the great stripper looks and all the driver comforts. And all wrapped up in the anti- Christine body style and color. My favorite.

Great picture Bill. I love that two door look. Would really like to find a good one like this to drive around town. Friend had a six cylinder in HS and we would all pile in. This was in '58. Any one out there with a lead? Has to be a two door, ;prefer Plymouth but Dodge okay, too.

Awesome looking car! My first car was a ‘58 Savoy although a 4 door, 6 cylinder, and 3 speed on the column (soon changed to a Fenton floor shifter) and rough condition. I bought it in 1966. Even though not a beauty it got me hooked on Mopars! Discovered this beauty today as I was cruisin’ about in my ‘55 Belvedere (as I seek to freshen it for a July wedding duty). Yummy Savoy! Was told by the shop owner (not the car owner) that the car has the original 318 and Powerflite.
