Not about
portable work lights but a brighter shop environment.
I have converted 14 or
so Florescent 2 tube shop lights in my shop to LED bulbs.
The rest have
the electronic ballasts built into the actual ends where the bulbs
install.
2 kinds of LED
bulbs are available.
1. Direct replacement, using the original ballast, plug
and play. While giving much brighter and better light, still wastes electric,
with a useless ballast.
2. 120 volt.
Take the shop light down, remove the bulbs, cut the wires and take the
ballast out. The LED tubes look just like regular tubes with 2 prongs at each
end.
Only 2 at one
end are used for the current. The 2 at the other end just support the bulb. You
connect the 120 volt wire coming in, to the "Tombstones" on one end.
Instructions are included, very simple.
Put the cover
back on, install the bulbs and hang the fixture. Maybe 10
minutes per
fixture.
Note that included with the bulbs us a sticker to place on the
fixture as a warning it has been rewired.
Sorry for the
detailed explanation, but it is so simple that anyone can do it.
Well worth it,
much better light, which can be selected as to whiteness, near forever life of
the bulb and cut your light bill to 25% or less of what it costs you
now.
My cost was
about $6.78 per bulb in a case of 16 bulbs. $125.00 including
shipping.
I've had friends
replace 2 bulbs in a 4 bulb ceiling light and had much brighter
light.
Hope this helps
some dark shops, at my age I need all the light I can get!
