Oopps! Didn't see your last line...new tanks for 57 to 59! Find a better candidate from out west...clean and seal that one. I had good luck with desert valley auto parts Sent from my Verizon Wireless 4G LTE smartphone -------- Original message -------- From: "Rimington, Kenneth" Date:04/30/2015 11:50 AM (GMT-05:00) To: L-FORWARDLOOK@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [FWDLK] Gas tank woes I have a sad, sad story. ~10 years ago I took my gas tank to a local radiator shop to have it boiled out and sealed.
The short version – I was ripped off big time!
The long version – What I got was: the tank was somewhat cleaned, tank sealer dribbled around the sending unit hole and a coat of black paint on the outside on top of the rust.
Where I need help – I have cleaned off the paint, wire brushed the rusty spots, patched the pin holes with a brass sheet and solder, leak checked the tank (no leaks, yea) and discovered the rusty interior. Before using a tank sealer, I want to clean out
the inside of the tank. What is the best method of rust removal inside a rusty tank? I have considered vinegar, phosphoric acid (various solutions) , Hydrochloric (muriatic) acid, evaporust, and electrolysis. Being an electrical guy, I am leaning towards
electrolysis. What has worked well for folks who have done more of this than I have. Tips and cautions would be appreciated.
