As others have said, [1] there should be enough clearance and [2] there are 
lots of reasons why there may not be.

One thing that gives you a wee bit more wiggle room is to take the studs off 
the bezel from inside the trunk.  That saves you about an inch of room 
between the bezels and the bumper.

Seems to me, from a distance, that the easiest way would be to loosen the 
bumper bracket bolt closest to the bumper from the frame, then remove the 
second bumper bracket/frame bolt furthest from the bumper.  That will drop 
the bumper on a pivot without removing it.

You've got multiple '57's in Seattle?  I've got one '58 down in Washougal, 
across from Portland.

I need to replace one of the taillight lenses on one of my 57 DeSotos,
but an easy way to do so isn't readily apparent. The chrome bezels can be
unbolted from the fin easily enough, but I can't get them off the car.
There doesn't appear to be enough clearance between the bottom of the
bezel and the bumper/exhaust port to tip or wiggle them out.

What am I missing? Do I have to drop the bumper just to get the bezels off?
