This would have been about the time I said the most moronic thing to ever leave my lips ....
I had been introduced to Merle Wolfer as a guy owning three Adventurer convertibles, two 57 and a 58.
At that point in my stupidity, I thought the 57 was the only car to own. Merle said neither of the two 57's were for sale, as one was his special car, and the other one was jointly owned with another guy and they had no plans for it at that moment.
But the 58 was for sale. A very nice, high miles, well maintained car that really needed nothing to enjoy. Probably a #3 survivor. Merle's price ? ... $4500.
The stupidest words to ever leave my lips ? "Nah, ... I think I'll hold out for a 57". :-P It went to Sweden.
The next time I found one, it only cost $500, but was delivered to me on pallets.

the cars people are trying to (and some successfully) restoring, this car was a
gem by today's standards.

He was adamant that radios did not belong in cars. They just

He thought the all-white paint was fancy enough.
Those were strange days in the car buying world (compared to
today). How else could Nash/AMC sell a single car, if the world wasn't
still full of frugal, practical-over-flashy car buyers at a time like the late
50's ?
It is a major reason why I found a stripper Plaza to park beside
my over-blinged Fireflite convertible. Too many car guys focus on the
super sexy stuff and the reality cars of the day are grossly
under-represented.
I too am guilty of parting some cars that today would be of high
interest as restoration projects. Several police cars come to mind.

One of the hot rod forums has a tech article on this I believe. I'll

Off the cuff, I知 not sure there ever was such a thing as PS on a
flathead six not mounted on the generator.
Even if there was, the number of PS 6 cyl cars must have been
miniscule.
You might save a lot of time and effort by just fabricating a bracket
to fit.

Subject: [FWDLK] Flathead Six Power Steering
Hello
Folks:
I'm
looking for a power steering bracket and then a pump to fit that
bracket, which will mount to a Flathead Six engine. But, not a pump that
is driven from the back of the generator, as I now have a alternator in
place of the generator. Does any one know where I can get a bracket
and pump? Or where I might begin looking? Any ideas
welcomed. Thanks George '56 Dodge Wagon 3 spd. o/d, Hemi
