[FWDLK] oil changes and oil type

What's your opinion on the following?

 

Like most vintage cars, I put in about 300 miles yearly on my '55 Ply and the last oil change was two years ago. The oil is still clear/translucent and I have always wanted to know a general opinion of a reasonable oil change for these cars. Some friends tell me I should change it more often but I go by the mileage on the car.

 

I have also used grade#40 due to the South Texas weather, but I have been contemplating switching to synthetic oils.  What do you guys think?
