Adam,
Wow, you really
told it like it is. Over the years I have did the part of the guys with the
clipboard picking winner for show trophies. After the
shows were over and many of the judges would get together, they
do not mind telling each other how many things they were not sure of when they
did the judging. Some are good guys and many are just proud to carry a
clipboard. One judge I know would never pick a car for a trophy if it was red.
He hated red cars.
Adam, I like you because you live in the real world and tell it
like it is. I have hundreds of trophies I won at drag strips and car shows. When
I think of what it cost me to win those $5.00 trophies, it brings tears to
my eyes a whole lot of tears. The only real fun I got was seeing Fords and
Chevy's in my rear view mirror as I crossed the finish line.!!!!!

If my car was to not win a trophy, be it the clock wasn't working or
because I had the wrong date coded bolts, or whatever I really wouldn't care,
it all goes back to if that's how you want your car that's great but I
personally could care less about impressing a judge, the idiot in shorts and
sandals (with socks of course) who is pointing out every flaw in every car
there, or whomever. I have never spent my life trying to please other people.
I guess that's why my cars have miles on them and "road rash", I like to enjoy
them. If I wanted trophies I could go out and buy them a lot cheaper than
spending 10's of thousands of dollars on a car that can win me $5.00 trophies
one at a time. Shows to me are more of a social gathering than a competition,
it's nice to get out and BS with other car guys. I guess that's where us Hot
Rodders (not street rodders) have an advantage, our cars don't have to be
original and are expected to show signs of being driven. The Amphicar
that I'm purchasing does have a non-functioning clock that I will have
repaired (quartz conversion) but that's for my convenience, not for a guy with
a clip board to give or take away points.

And since this thread has gone on so long I lost all of the vendors
names mentioned, who has a good quartz clock guy that can fix my Amphi's
clock?????

When I park one of my 300 letter cars at a show, I always disconnect
the negative cable off the battery. My theory is that without any
electrical, one can't have an electrical fire. So that would mean that
my clock would NOT be working! Fern with 300H conv and

CLOCKS, ARE WE THAT OLD.!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi all:
Now let's not get carried away with the idea that clocks are not so
important. Several years ago, there was a car show at Sacramento
where 2 cars were tied for the trophy. The judges felt that they
were identical as far as judging was concerned. What to do!!!
Someone hit upon the idea to see if the radio, or was it the clock,
worked. Upon inspection, one car had whichever it was working and
received the trophy. So perhaps in the future, because your clock is
running and the one in your fellow enthusiast's is not, you get the
trophy.
Have fun.
