Years ago, when I took my 57 Belvedere in for transmission problems, the mechanic called it exactly that; morning sickness. I'd have to wait a good 5-7 minutes before I even attempted to drive anywhere, but once it was thoroughly warmed, it was fine. I ended up having the transmission rebuilt just so I'd know it was okay and dependable.

I had that exact same problem once in my 64 Dodge driver years ago. The
colder it got the longer it stayed stuck in first. Once it shifted, it
was fine afterwards until it cooled off again. I assumed it was caused
by varnish in the valve body sticking a check ball.
It went away forever immediately with a fliud change.
